Your employees are working with chemicals that according to the SDS requires the use of a respirator. No problem you say. Concerned for the safety of your employees, you send them out to the local big box store and pick up a respirator. You make sure the cartiridge on the respirator is designed for the type of chemical they are using. You even make sure that it fits properly by performing a negative pressure test. Is this enough to be considered Safe and Compliant?
NO. Not according to OSHA 1910.134 which mandates that all employees that require a respirator need to have an medical evaluation. This evaluation can be in the form of a questionnaire. This questionnaire and all the information on what OSHA requires on respirators is available to our members at www.safeandcompliant.net.
